This Parco Sempione (Sempione Park) is situated on the north-western side of Milan and covers an area of around 47 hectares / 116 acres.
Occupying part of the old Visconti Ducal garden, which was enlarged during the 15th century to make an enormous 300-hectare / 740-acre hunting reserve, the Parco Sempione (Sempione Park) has much to offer visitors staying in Milan.
The present day layout of the Parco Sempione was designed by Emilio Alemagna in the early 1890s, who created a typical English-style garden. In the Second World War, Milan's Sempione Park was used to cultivate wheat and soon returned to its former state once the war was over.
Attractions at Milan's Sempione Park include a large artificial lake, a monument to Napoleon III, a sulphur water fountain and the Torre del Parco - a tall tower built of steel tubes in 1932.
