This important Neo-Classical Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace) monument in Milan was originally built to celebrate Napoleon's famous victories and was to be called the Arch of Victories.
Construction began in 1807 and the building work was soon interrupted when the designs of the Arco della Pace changed to commemorate the peace of 1815 instead. Work was eventually resumed in 1826 and Milan's monument was subsequently renamed the Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace).
In 1838 the Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace) in Milan was inaugurated at the coronation of Ferdinand I as ruler of the Lombardy / Veneto region. The Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace) can be found in north-west area of Milan and is covered in Crevola marble. One of the main attractions on Milan's Arco della Pace (Arch of Peace) is an enormous bronze named the 'Chariot of Peace', at the top of the arch, which features a detailed chariot and four horses. Other attractions at Milan's Arch of Peace include magnificent views of the Castello and Corso Sempione.
